Frequently asked questions
Students enrolled full-time at an educational institution recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur (MEES) are eligible for the reduced fare.
If you have questions regarding your status as a full-time student, please contact your educational institution. They will determine your status.
You must present the following:
- The duly completed "Reduced-fare student OPUS card" form*
-
A piece of ID that confirms your age (a student card from your educational institution is not accepted as proof of ID). Photocopies will not be accepted and the form or certificate of attendance must be dated within the last month.
A fee will be charged to issue your OPUS card with photo, unless you are an OPUS+ subscriber and present the email you received in August during your appointment at a ticket office.
*For students aged 16 and over, the form must be marked with the official seal of your educational institution. Certain educational institutions offer their students a certificate of attendance to facilitate their request to obtain an OPUS card. If that is the case, a certificate of attendance may substitute the seal, which will not then be required on your "Reduced-fare student OPUS card" form, unless you are sending in your request by mail.
An OPUS card with photo has a limited lifespan. An expiry date is shown on your OPUS card. Your current fare privilege is valid until that date.
There is no deadline. If you already have an OPUS card with photo, it will expire on the date noted on the card, and you will therefore no longer have access to reduced fares after that date. You may obtain or renew your OPUS card with photo starting August 1 in order to avoid the lineups in the fall. Make an appointment
The information shown on student ID cards varies from one institution to another. When used alone, a student ID card does not show certain items of information needed for us to identify you correctly.
In this case, the official seal (or stamp) is not necessary. However, in addition to your certificate of school attendance, you must fill out the “To be filled out by applicant” and “Mandatory signature” sections of the form. This consists of your permission to share the items of information required to issue your OPUS card with photo.
An OPUS card with photo is always registered in the name of its holder.
To replace your card or retrieve the balance of unused fares on your lost OPUS card, go to a metropolitan ticket office or exo sales outlet with a piece of ID. A fee will be required to issue your new OPUS card.
We recommend that students who lose their OPUS card with photo after August 1 take the opportunity to renew their card while retrieving their fares.
